Liyuan scholar Colloquiumfifty-nine

Lecture Title:Highly efficient and accurate schemes for Navier-Stokes equations and general dissipative systems

Speaker:Prof. Jie Shen (Ningbo Oriental University of Technology)

Lecture Time:December 10, 2023 (Sunday)9:00-10:00

Lecture location:Classroom No. 1, 1/F, Hui Xing Building, Yuehai Campus, Shenzhen University, China

Overview:I shall present a new class of higher-order decoupled schemes for Navier-Stokes equations and their error analysis. The new approach can also be used to construct highly stiff stable schemes for general parabolic systems.

Speaker Introduction:Prof. Jie Shen graduated from Peking University in 1982, majoring in computational mathematics, and studied at the University of Paris XI, France, on official mission in 1983, and then went to Indiana University in the United States to conduct postdoctoral research after obtaining his Ph. From 1991 to 2001, he served as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Pennsylvania State University. Since 2002, he has been a professor in the Department of Mathematics at Purdue University. He will be the director of the Center for Computational and Applied Mathematics at Purdue University from 2012 to 2022, and will be appointed as a Distinguished Professor at Purdue University in 2023.Since May 2023, he has been a Chair Professor and the Dean of the School of Mathematical Sciences at Ningbo East University of Science and Technology. Prof. Jie Shen is mainly engaged in the numerical solution of partial differential equations, with specific research interests in the theory of spectral methods for numerical analysis, computational fluids, and computational materials science. He has published more than 200 papers in international journals, two monographs, and more than 25,000 citations in Google Scholar. He was selected for the Overseas High-level Talent Program in 2009, AMS fellow in 2017, and SIAM fellow in 2020.

Teachers and students are welcome to participate!
